Today is my 30th birthday 🙂

Yesterday I celebrated with my friends. We talked, ate, drank, listened to music and played games. An iPad, combined with a smart TV and a app to do presentations with makes for an excellent pictionary setup 😀

Today was family day, which I always enjoy very much. Especially when almost everyone is there 🙂

I was also spoiled with awesome presents. Eva gave me a wooden box that she had decorated by pyrographing my original birth announcement on it, but then with my new names instead of the old ones. Gert gave me a glorious book-in-a-book-in-a-book that I can’t wait to read. Kim gave me If I Stay (and its sequel) which was on my list. Aunt Zwaan made me a file folder with a custom fabric cover and ribbon closure and so on.

And with that, I’m going to bed! Partying is exhausting 😀

Friday was the last workday before having a glorious week off. After work I hit Blokker to get some birthday/housewarming presents for Eva, Jarig and Feije. They’d all had their birthday in the last two months, but with moving, it was bad timing to celebrate. So they were doing a party now. I found them a cute little step ladder-like thing to put plants on, as well as some paper lanterns and for Feije I had a book I’d chanced upon earlier this year.

Saturday I met Ingrid in the city so we could drive to Eva’s. There we helped set up the garden for the party carrying tables, chairs, the BBQ and assorted food stuffs around. The rest of the guests arrived near the end of the afternoon. It was a great party, good people, good conversations, good atmosphere and good food. When it got really dark we unleashed our inner pyromaniacs and built a fire. It was far past midnight when we finally abandoned it.

We stayed the night and camped out on the sofa’s in the living room. I didn’t sleep too well, but I’ll blame that on the crappy synthetic sleeping bag and sticking to the leather sofa 😀

The next morning we got woken up pretty early because the kid of the other couple staying over was awake. So we switched and took their bed so they could stay in the living room. Finally got out of bed around 9ish. We helped put away the tables and chairs and then breakfasted with the remainders of the bread and herb butter and cream cheese from the night before. Ingrid and I left shortly after noon to go home so I could catch the 13:22 train.

All in all, it felt like a weekend away. It was so fun and relaxing. I’m up for a repeat 😀

Party Up (Up In Here)

Spiffy OutfitFriday was this party from work. And I’m not normally a party kind of person, but this time, I decided to go. Mainly because of the other people that were also going 🙂

We (being Nienke, Nico and I) decided to go “fancy dress”. Nico’d bought a suit, Nienke had a sparkly dress, and I bought new pants and a red shirt to go with the vest I already had. Accessorized it up with my pocket watch and a silver sparkly bow tie (as did Nico). Meeting point was outside work, and there would be limousines to drive all of us to the party location 😀

Turned out there were three, a Lincoln, a Chrysler and a frakkin Hummer! Of course we decided to take the Hummer 😀

The party itself was actually really good. Not at all what I had expected (I tend to end up in corners going ‘can I go home now?”).

After the obligatory waiting, and the intro talks the music started, and it was actually good. It was this DJ duo where one of em regularly played the violin with the music the other guy was doing. I’d never seen something like that before and I really enjoyed it. Plus it was good music to dance to.

I usually have a hard time not moving when I hear music, or singing along. So before I knew it, I was dancing. And that had been a while 😀 I ended up dancing along another co-worker, picked up some extra moves and had an all around great time.

Too bad we had to leave early because stupid public transport.
