Blog About Me [18/52] What Does My Blog Name Mean

Monday, October 28, 2013 by Tse Moana Leave a Comment

Tse Moana is a handle I’ve had online for many, many years. When you google the name, with quotation marks, most, if not all, results are me. If you google without, you’re less lucky as both are existing words.

The name stems from a movie or show I saw as a kid. It was a New Zealand thing. Or at least, it took place in New Zealand. It was a story about a Māori girl named Moana, which means ocean, or sea. I don’t much remember about the plot, but she had a grandfather or some other elder of her tribe. They lived in a traditional setting. If I remember it correctly, the girl rebelled against the cultural teachings her grandfather was trying to give her. Until in the end she learned they were good and there was meaning in her name. The ocean, and that she was named after it, turned out to be quite important. It made such an impression on me, that I remembered the name. Unfortunately, I’ve never been able to find the movie or show again.

Anyway, fast forward a few years and we have internet and I register for things and I needed a handle. And it just popped into my head, except I remembered the name, wrongly, as Tse Moana. So I used that, and kept using it up until today. I later learned that “Tse” is not actually a Māori word, so that could not have been part of her name, but it’s still part of mine and makes mine unique 🙂

I still hope one day to find this show or movie, but so far… 🙁

The subtitle is a quote I saw on a t-shirt once years ago and is one two that I really like as a motto/explanation-of-me thing. The other is: “If the sky is the limit, then what is space?” I have this as the title of my Tumblr.

Meh

I have a sick.

Must’ve caught a random wandering virus somewhere as I am now dizzy, nauseous, feverish, have a head ache, protesting muscles and am squarely out of energy. I assume this will all pass in a few days, so in the mean time, I read and browse the internet. And I will probably blog, since my backlog of links and things I want to post has built up. And it’s been a while since I posted anything proper about myself and my life anyway.

So there, expect bloggage over the next few days.

Things

Sunday, April 22, 2012 by Tse Moana Leave a Comment

So… I found something else to play with on the blog. It’s called 100 Things: A Blogging Challenge. Check the link for the full explanation, but it boils down to this: blog about 100 things, one thing at a time.

Now, the challenge is relatively without rules, so I’m liberately modifying it to suit me wishes 😀

First, I have ambitions (occasionally) so instead of picking just one topic of 100 things to blog about, I’ve found several. I’m not revealing them beforehand, you’ll just have to wait and see 🙂

Second, since I’m not totally crazy I’m not blogging every topic one thing at a time. Instead I will be blogging ten things at a time. This can be in simple list form without much context or elaboration, or they might be huge ass blog posts, I reserve the freedom to do the fuck I please on my own blog 😀

I do intend to end up with at least a 100 posts in the category I made for this, so that means with ten things per post I need ten posts to finish a topic. So I’ll need at least ten topics (ten topics with each ten posts (= 100 posts total) covering ten things (makes at least 1000 things, oh my…)).

Expect the first installment sometime this week.

Another Beginning

Sunday, January 8, 2012 by Tse Moana Leave a Comment

So, here we are, a week into the new year. I don’t do resolutions, I know myself well enough to know that’s pointless. I have, however, decided to pick a theme. Basically an idea, or motivator of sorts, to keep in mind and use to guide my decisions this year. Theme for this year is Just Do It (to steal from Nike). This year the idea is to be more active in my pursuits, to take action to get where I want to be.

In that light, I’ve made some related decisions in what I want to do this year, both long term things that I want to start this year, as well as things I want to accomplish. Most of the stuff I can’t, or rather won’t, talk about just yet. But I hope to provide further updates soon.

I also have some stuff that I will talk about. First of that being this blog. It took way longer than expected to fix the image issue I was having. This was mostly my own problem because I let it lie for too long while it, in the end, turned out to be a relatively simple fix. After it got fixed I did one of the photo posts I said I would and then left it again. Putting pics together for the August photo post was annoying the crap out of me, so I just sorta stopped.

To prevent shit like that from making me stop blogging again, I’m not scheduling anything anymore. No more ‘I’m going to do this on a weekly basis’ or ‘every month I’m gonna…’ or even non-committal shit like ‘I plan to regularly…’ I’m not planning anything any more in regards to the blog. I still have a lot of things in my head that I wanna post, but I’m just gonna do whatever comes up, whenever I want to. There’s already enough shit in life that you have to do, I don’t want this blog to be one of those things. After all, I have this website to have fun with and to make a record of who I am and what I like. If it becomes a chore, it’ll loose all life it has.

Something else I think I haven’t mentioned here yet is Milo. Milo is my new cat, whom I got from the shelter on October 22. He’s a young boy of almost two (in March) and he’s almost the complete opposite of Monkey. He’s playful, and active and a bit of a talker. Monkey only makes a noise when he really wants to go outside and I don’t respond fast enough. Milo opens his mouth a lot more, and when he does the most adorable little shriek comes out. It’s almost like a friggin’ baby bird going meeeeep! The shelter named him Bo, which is stupid, so I renamed him. But, in keeping with tradition I kept (most of) his shelter name as part of his name.

So, without further ado, meet Milo Beauregard Gibbs:

My cat

Monkey and Milo are getting along pretty well. Milo wants to play with Monk but he’s not really into that. They do chase each other around (in mostly good fun), though. This usually starts with Milo approaching Monkey to sniff at him or invite him to play and then Monkey does this hissy fit kinda thing where he yowls a bit and waves his paw around. Milo the backs off a bit and seconds later they’ll be chasing each other around the house.

He also loves feather teasers, so much so, even, that the one I had is almost dead already. So I bought three new ones right away to get a bit of a supply. And today the laser pointer I ordered came in. Tried it on him, he went insane for it 😀

In comparison, Monkey ignored it and pointedly reminded me that he knows I’m the one controlling the toys so he’s not gonna waste his energy on that, thank you very much. (related sidenote: Monkey has very expressive eyes).

Tomorrow Milo gets to go outside for the first time since I got him. I kept him inside a little longer than I normally would because of New Year’s and the fireworks and such. I hope he likes it, he tends to still be a little skittish with loud noises or big/tall objects/people although he’s progressed heaps in that since he came. The first week he would hide under the bed every time I walked through the house. He still runs when he gets spooked, but now he almost right away comes back out from wherever he runs to, to check out what happened.

In short, he’s a cool cat 😀

Other stuff… eh… Work is going well I guess. I applied for a trainer/coach position within my department, got through the initial interview with flying colors and got to do an assessment. I felt pretty good about that, the tests were easy and the talk with the counselor about work and ambitions and what type of person I was went well too, at least I thought so. The role play situation went less well. Both because I hate role play situations, and because I found the set-up they had for it not relevant to what actually goes on at my job. All in all, I had a good feeling about it.

The result came in a week later, and I got a negative result. They thought I would not be suitable for the position because, in a nut shell, I ‘m not social enough, and that’s not fixable… Right. I was fuming for two days. There’s a core of truth in the report. Yes, I am an introvert, I told him so, but that does not mean I’m antisocial, it just means that interaction with people costs energy (versus giving me energy). I know this of myself so I take precautions. This is the reason I don’t work on Wednesdays so I have a day in the middle to recharge. Also, social interaction has been difficult for me in the past. I used to be more shy but this is something I’ve learned to overcome for a large part. Especially since I started working at my current job I’ve learned so much about interacting with people and have grown so much in that regard.

So, back to the report, I felt as if it were a snap shop of me three years ago, give or take. I discussed it with my supervisor and some other people later on, and they all were surprised by it. They saw the core of truth that was in there, but the extent of it…

Regardless of that, though, the assessment is final so it meant I was out of the application procedure. So I’m still doing what I did before, and that’s not a bad thing either. I love writing so the e-mail and letter thing is a good job for me to have. I’m doing a lot of letters these days, more so than e-mail, and I’m really enjoying that. However, I will be looking for opportunities to move forward or at least expand my skill set. For the moment still preferably within the same company.

I think this is more than long enough for a first blog of 2012. I hope to do a post to catch up on my booklist and 101 list. Booklist definitely because I failed my target so very much I think it might be the lowest in years. The 101 list… Meh, I think it needs revising first. I’m having second thoughts on a lot of the goals and I think the sheer amount of them, even keeping in mind the long time one has for it (1001 days) it might be too many things for a person with an attention span like mine.

We’re back? We’re back!

Monday, August 1, 2011 by Tse Moana Leave a Comment

Webhost transfer’s fully complete, the whole thing is working as it should again. Well, mostly at least. I’m having trouble with inserting images into posts and editing posts with images in them. That’ll get fixed soon enough. In the mean time, here’s some catching up, albeit then without the photos I planned to put up along. Next post is about June, the one after is about July. I’m hoping to have the pictures fixed at some point next week, then I will either post a separate picture blog or edit the June and July posts.

Back!

Monday, April 18, 2011 by Tse Moana Leave a Comment

Website’s been down for about three weeks or so after my host decided to take it down because apparently a script was causing trouble. They were no help in trying to figure out where the problem was. I spent quite some time on Google, checked out (and changed) various things. I’m not sure what the problem was, be it a regular (good) script that went haywire or if any hacking took place, but let’s hope this will be enough.

In other news, I’ve decided to stop the P365 photo posts for a while. I’ve lost the drive to take the picture every day somewhere in March and haven’t gotten it back yet. There’s still a lot of pictures, but I can’t be bothered at the moment to process them and make a blog thing out of it. Maybe later.

I’ve also gotten a bit more selective with Book Club and have decided to drop some of the books on the list because I’m less interested in them. I will post reviews of the ones I’ve read over the past month. Expect a late review of Dust since I’m now almost done with the second sequel and will have read the entire trilogy then, so I can review the whole thing at once. There’s also a review coming of Darkship Thieves and Elfland. I’m in two minds about reading Four and Twenty Blackbirds. Prospero Lost I do wanna read but probably not in the proper time.

Next weekend I’ll do some general life blogging, a post on the Elf Fantasy Fair where I spent this Saturday, and possible some loose ends in links and such.

Weekly Four: week 8

Tuesday, March 1, 2011 by Tse Moana Leave a Comment

I’m grateful for my parents, just because that should be said sometimes <3

I’m happy with all I’ve been doing last week, both creatively (puppets) as well as in my house (re-organizing the kitchen, sorting through my clothes)

I’m annoyed I’m falling of the blogging bandwagon again. Haven’t posted in almost two weeks, which on itself is okay, but a couple of the theme posts (like P365 and the Weekly Four) should still happen. Even if only because it’s too much work if I miss too many.  Managed to catch up with the P365, but will skip the WF for week 7.

I learned to cut things for the puppets slightly bigger than I was already doing. George’s boots are rather tight after sowing the parts together

Time

Sunday, January 30, 2011 by Tse Moana Leave a Comment

I need more time. Or maybe just better time management…

The puppets are feeling sorry for themselves since they’re still only just a body with a head (although I have made George a leg to go with his solitary arm, and I attached said arm).

My Book Club books are also feeling neglected. I haven’t finished The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms yet (although I’m far enough in that I can finish that tonight) and haven’t even started on Chill. Saving grace on that is that I’ve read it before so I should be able to do a post about it and discuss along a bit.

My blog is lonesome since I’ve only been doing the regular theme posts of late (weekly four, P365) and not very much personal blogging or one of the other varieties of theme blogs I have going on.

On the up side, I’m no longer sick, I’ve a reasonably uncluttered house these days and Monkey’s paw is as good as better. That counts for something right? 😀

It’ll right itself next month, I expect. New years usually start of a bit rough 😀

Onwards to the End! Wait, Stop! We Missed It!

Sunday, January 2, 2011 by Tse Moana Leave a Comment

Oh my, I have way too many things to post about to all fit in one post. Not just because it would be a mega Too Long; Don’t Read kinda thing, but also because some things are intro-type posts that work best on their own. So I’m spreading them out a bit, posting some of it now, and the rest tomorrow.

I mentioned my Christmas Day shenanigans, which were few and low-key, and the second day of Christmas wasn’t much different. I spent the day with my parents, just hanging out. Played a lot of Warcraft, and had a lovely dinner.  Spent the night at theirs too, and went to work the next day from there.

On Old Year’s Day (as we Dutchies call it), I had to work till about six, and went over to the parents again after that. I’m not too fond of New Year’s Eve, I dislike fireworks and can’t stand the incessant noises they make. Plus, for me the new year, seasonally speaking, starts at Yule. I’d brought my laptop to Parentville so I spent the evening backing up my files (which was way overdue, thank Gods there were no crashes or whatnots in between), and installing the Humble Indie Bundle I bought the other day. At midnight there was the standard well wishing and then I went on to play Warcraft, while keeping the dog calm as the neighbours went nuts with fireworks.

Tessa behaved quite nicely. She was still terrified, but there was less of the hiding in corners and such as she did last year. I think some of the things I picked up from watching Cesar Milan, in staying calm and assertive and getting her out of her heightened state when it was nearing the overboard level, worked quite well.

Hit the sack not too late and slept in this morning, absolute heaven! I don’t get to sleep in a lot at home. During the week I usually have to get up early for work, and on my days off, or when I have a late shift, the cat tends to wake me up. After hanging around the house, stopping by at home to feed and check up on Monkey, and having lunch, I finally showered. Shortly after ‘t was time for the traditional New Year’s Day meet up of my mom’s side of the family at my uncle’s house. We were there for most of the day, and it was great fun 🙂

I don’t do resolutions, but I do have my big 101 list, so I’ll be posting an update on that in a bit, along with the things on that list that are planned for this year. (note to self: comma’s are your friends, but don’t ignore periods…)

Other posts to come along shortly: final booklist, book club intro post thingy (I might combine those, probably easier), a little 2010 overview thing, the weekly four tomorrow and an intro for my 2011 Picture-a-Day thing.

LOL, I figured since I’ll probably remain Glee obsessed for quite a while I should add a dedicated Glee tag to go along the more general TV one 😀
