Nerd Block: June

Thursday, June 18, 2015 by Tse Moana Leave a Comment

Nerd Block BoxI’ve been interested in subscription boxes lately. A subscription box is a system where you subscribe to receive a mystery box of stuff. There are many different boxes, many different themes. There are ones where you get a bag of make-up and related products every month, boxes with stuff for your dog or cat, an assortment of craft supplies and so on. There’s also a couple boxes that are geared toward geeks.

Once I decided I wanted to try out a box, I figured a geeky box would suit me best. Two of the more well-known ones in that genre are LootCrate and Nerd Block. After comparing previous boxes I went with Nerd Block. Nerd Block costs $19,99 which, with shipping, ends up to be about €30, which I think is a reasonable price for a box that always includes a t-shirt and several other pieces of merchandise.

Today, I received my first box. The theme was Britain, so I was hoping for some Doctor Who. I was not disappointed 😀 Besides a Doctor Who Vinyl figure there was also an very pretty art print.

The Mr. Bean bendable figure was okay. I used to watch Mr. Bean a lot as a kid but I’m not that interested in the show beyond that. The Bean Teddy Bear, though, is very cute.

Monty Python’s magnetic words are hilarious, they’ll be fun to play with on the fridge. And the Sherlock shirt was the icing on the cake!

The Coming of Spring

Wednesday, March 9, 2011 by Tse Moana Leave a Comment

The ice-king trembles on his throne,
And holds his rod with loosened hand;
For there are murmurs in the air
Of one who cometh, sweet and fair,
To break with smiles the monarch’s band.

The skies are dawning a new blue,
To welcome her whose dancing feet
Thro’ cloudland hasten from afar,
Guided by sun, and moon, and star,
Her waiting friends once more to greet.

The timid violets lift their heads,
And heavenward turn their gentle eyes,
And catch the fragrance newly born
Which cometh with the Spring’s glad dawn,
And steal their color from the skies.

The merry birds on twig and branch
Trill out the news with fluttering wings,
While Robin seeks the early fruit,
Impatient watching the green shoot,
And the glad tidings gaily sings.

The brook, grown weary of restraint,
Has burst its weakened bonds at last,
And rushing down the mountain-side,
Lends its fresh influence far and wide,
And Winter’s icy reign is past!

– Mary Dow Brine (1816-1913)

Out of Hibernation

Friday, February 23, 2007 by Tse Moana 2 Comments

Floating, soaring, flying
further and further
away from the world.

Falling, gliding, sinking
deeper and deeper
in the comforting dark.

Seductive, enticing
lighter and brighter
the day touches me.

Just some random thoughts to kickstart my freshly awakened brain.

Some Poetry

Thursday, November 10, 2005 by Tse Moana Leave a Comment

Hope
Even in the darkest of times,
a light shines at the horizon.
I look up to the sky,
where a patch of blue peeks from behind the grey.
“Hope is a thing with feathers,”
Emily once wrote,
now I see hope, flying by me, spotting a mouse.
Live and let live…
or is it live and let die?
The mouse escapes and hope remains.

Funny Place
What if all the good things in this world were true
And all the bad things weren’t
And what if all this was personal
And I could be the one to say,
“This is good,” and “this is bad.”
And “This is right,” and “this is wrong.”
The world would be a funny place

“Untitled”
I take it you’ve been here before
You seem to know the way
Could you take me with you?
I seem to be lost
I just can’t find the path
You know… the one
My heart cries out, my head spins
My legs take me to places I didn’t know existed
But it just isn’t what I…
Want?
Need?
Deserve?
…
Take me?

Random Quote

Of all the toys available, none is better designed than the (cat)owner himself. A large multipurpose plaything, its parts can be made to move in almost any direction. It comes completely assembled, and it makes a sound when you jump on it.
