Tidbits

Thursday, March 22, 2007 by Tse Moana Leave a Comment

I saw the most amazing earthshine Tuesday evening as I was walking from Bagpipe practice to the bus stop.

The attic is finally done. My dad and I went to get the carpet today and he laid it this afternoon. I moved my bed upstairs afterwards and put some other things in their place that were already stored in the attic awaiting the finishing touches to the room.

I’ll photograph and post when all my stuff is in there.

I also sent in my entry for the Unleash Award for Spring 2007, which is a Dutch story writing competition organised twice a year. Categories are fantasy/scifi and horror/suspense. This edition has a wordcount of 3000 maximum while the Autumn edition has a 6000 word maximum. I hope to finish another story before the deadline (March 30th) in the horror/suspense category but that is more difficult as I have not written in that genre before. The story I entered is a fantasy one and I really like it and am very satisfied with it. I hope I end high, obviously, but any place higher than the last ten or so will be good. So far, there have been 20 stories or so entered in each category but many send theirs in last minute so it’s a good harvest this year 🙂

I Get That Fuzzy Feeling

Saturday, March 10, 2007 by Tse Moana Leave a Comment

Why is it that stuff is never there when you want it? Correction, to be fair, why is it that stuff often is never there when you want it.

I went to a furniture store last week to get carpeting for my attic which I’ve been remodeling. Or rather, which my dad mostly has been remodeling with a little help from me. It has been turned from a, comparatively, huge space (going over my entire house (which isn’t all that big to begin with)) used to store junk into a nicely walled off 3x4m space which will become my bedroom and another space roughly the same size used for junk. All it needs before I can start moving my stuff up there is carpeting, which is what I went to get last week. I had hardly been in the store for ten minutes when I saw the stuff I wanted. It was fuzzy and soft and highish and available in red, it said so on the colour chart.

But, as I should’ve figured, what’s on the colour chart is not necessarily in the store. They had almost all of the ten colours right there, including a few awful ones, but not red. No, that needed to be ordered.

As the employee walked us (me and my dad the driver) to a little desk to fill in an order form he said that I could pick it up next week. But then, as he walked us over to a nearby computer to copy the order form into the pc (talk about bureaucracy) and actually place the order, he discovered it wouldn’t be next week. And not even the week after that, no it would be almost three weeks later. Grumble.

In all seriousness, I understand deliveries take time and all that but I just want to get my attic done, please, I’ve been living in a general mess for too long now.

*sigh* Rant over.

Since I’ve been showering you with photographs, I figured I’ll do a few more to show off the results of a month of hard work.

Moved!

Tuesday, February 7, 2006 by Tse Moana Leave a Comment

ifLast night I spent my first night in my new place. About time too, it’s been a month since I got the key.

Today, my uncle came to put the one-to-last finishing touch in, laying laminate in the kitchen.

All that needs to be done now is getting my living room curtains, which my aunt is making for me.

Almost Done

Sunday, January 29, 2006 by Tse Moana Leave a Comment

About 98% of the fixing up part is done. The only things that need to be done are painting the wooden bits under the doors (but we wait with that until after I move so we don’t damage the paint during moving) and laying the upper flooring in the kitchen (which is fairly easy and with which we’re waiting for the same reason as the painting). My dad will be hanging up some lights and my mom and aunt said they would go cleaning and so they’ll be doing that tomorrow and then we can move stuff. Finally!

If all goes well, I’ll be all moved and settled in by next weekend.

Here’s a picture of the mess in my room with boxes and piles and such.

Working On The House pt. 3

Friday, January 13, 2006 by Tse Moana Leave a Comment

Here you can just see the hole in my kitchen floor in the top left corner of the photo. I called the Housing Cooperation about the rotten bit of flooring and they came and said two beams that are supporting the floor are rotten as well and need to be replaced. So they will be back to fix it in the next few days.

And this one shows my dad painting a part of a kitchen wall.

Working On The House pt. 2

Wednesday, January 11, 2006 by Tse Moana Leave a Comment

This is me, removing a strip of wallpaper the previous inhabitant had placed to separate the red and cream areas of the wall. It turned out to be not so easy as they used a funny type of glue and probably put it on while the red wallpaint was still wet. It was so sticky, we ended up putting a steelbrush thingy on a drill to remove it.

And this is an old nightstand I had which I repainted as I disliked its original colour (lightblue). I made it black so it fits in with my desk which is also black.

My House

Saturday, January 7, 2006 by Tse Moana Leave a Comment

So, it’s been a bit but it’s all final now. Yesterday I went to the Housing Cooperation, signed the papers and got the keys. I went to take a look at the place the same afternoon and then I realised that, with all the furniture removed, it’s pretty clear I have my work cut out for me. All the walls need painting, the doors need to be sanded and painted, a part of the floor covering in the kitchen is just plain rotten and needs to be replaced. But still, my dog seemed to like it which is a good thing. I’m not taking her with me as technically she is the family dog and she’s just better off with my parents. I do plan to have her over regularly so it’s good she enjoyed herself.

Here’s a picture:
